CD COVER

After creating the ideas for our CD cover using Photoshop, my group and I decided that we liked this one the most:

Once we had decided this, we took some photos of our "band members" that star in our music video, although only two of the three of them showed up. We still decided to take some photos of them and thought we could edit the other band member into the photos if that would look right. We took the photos in different places around our school as this is where our video is also set. We tried to make some of the photos obvious that they were taken in a school but also took some more ambiguous shots as well.

Here are some of the photos that we took using a Nikon DSLR:

Along with the pictures against the red wall, we also took some pictures just of the wall in case we wanted to use them as a background.

Using Photoshop I created a mock up of our CD cover (front and back) but as a group we have yet to decide how the insert will look.

First, I created a canvas to the dimensions of a CD case and then used one of the pictures of the red wall as a background. I then looked through the photos for the best one to use on the cover. In the end, I decided to cut out the figures from different images and paste them onto the red background so I could experiment with different sizes and positions. As there will eventually be 3 boys on the cover, I used a different image of one of the same boys just to see what the cover looked like with 3 figures. Also, to make the figures look like they are actually standing there, rather than having been cut out from a different picture, I added shadows to make it look like they are leaning against the wall. Next, I copied and pasted the text from a website called dafont.com. I cut out the different letters, and used different sizes and changed the opacity to create the effect shown above. I also gave the letters in the front shadows to make them stand out more against the background and the letters behind. I thought that the font fit well with the setting and the theme of our music video as it sort of looks like someone has written it on the wall, which happens a lot in schools. I then added the text in the left hand corner in the same way and added shadows.

After creating the front cover, I opened a canvas of the same dimensions for back cover. I decided that it would look better to use the same background from the front cover, so copied and pasted the image but also flipped it horizontally. I then found the Island Records on the Internet and added it to the back cover. Next I used the same fonts from the front cover, but in different ways to present the name of the song and the band name on the back cover. I also added a barcode that I made on an internet barcode generator.

These covers are not finished yet, but they have given us a good idea of our end product and we are very happy with how the covers look so far. We plan to follow the same theme for the insert of the CD package so that it shows continuity. We also plan to use the same theme for our magazine advert.

BEHIND THE SCENES

DIGIPACK IDEAS

This is the single cover for "In Too Deep" by Sum 41.

On a website called dafont.com, I found a variety of "old school" fonts that are similar to the font used on the front of the single cover. As our music video is set in a school, these type of fonts will probably fit in well with the theme we hope to use.

I also found this Sum 41 t-shirt on the store section
of their website. The font on this t-shirt could also be classed as "old school".

With these fonts in mind, I used photoshop to create some ideas for our CD cover. I used photos that I found on the internet of Sum 41 to get an idea of composition before we decide on photos we want to use for our actual cover.

FILMING

Last Thursday we started filming the narrative scenes from the video. We started with scenes including the main actress and her friends and their lip singing pieces. We uploaded the film onto premier pro and were happy with how they looked on there. Our shots were very clear and steady.

The week before we filmed a few scenes from the chorus in which we create the lyrics in different ways. They are looking good so far but we still have a lot to film!

We plan to film the scenes with the males in the video this Thursday and carry on filming the chorus as and when we can. We have bought the extra props that we need and plan to finish filming by the end of January!

CHRISTMAS

In the couple of lessons we had before Christmas our A2 media class decided to create a short funny video relating to festivities. We only had 2 hours to do it in, therefore, decided to parody The Pouges- Fairytale of New York music video. We quickly put together a storyboard (in out heads) and set about filming it using props from the drama department and instruments from the music department.  We filmed it in 40 minutes and edited it in an hour. We also made a CD cover for it.

ENJOY!

ANIMATED STORYBOARD

This is our storyboard put to music. We are planning to do another video including a voiceover of us explaining what is going to happen in each shot, shot types and angles etc. The music and storyboard pictures are not exactly in time but counting the beats helps you  to keep on track.

The blank spaces in the storyboard are where we are spelling out the lyrics. The boxes are numbered, and below is a list of the corresponding ways that we are spelling out the lyrics.
